WELCOME TO THIS TAIWANESE HOKKIEN PROJECT

Connecting to my heritage

Welcome to This Taiwanese Hokkien Project, a blog meant to document  some of my personal experiences with learning how to speak Taiwanese Hokkien for my PhD Immersive Cultural Report (ICR) project. This project started in October 2021 to document a bit of the process of learning Taiwanese from the Bite-Size Taiwanese Podcast and corresponding workbook chapters, link to their website here. Aside from the workbook and podcast work, I have also decided to integrate other methods of language learning: reflections and reviews focused on Taiwanese songs, Taiwanese movies, and Taiwanese shows. Due to time, as well as how this project has personally affected me, much of what made it onto this blog is mainstream and media focused.  Much of my work for my ICR has been personally documented within my workbook, but I have included a chapter for my comps committee. If you are here by chance, please reach out via email if you are also learning Taiwanese or on another type of language learning journey!

Since I had to spend funds on this ICR project, but still want to encourage others to support, I have decided to restrict access to some of my ICR work and documentation so that the comps committee may view the chapter one workbook pages, but not folks who publicly browse this blog site. I encourage you to purchase the workbook chapters or support the Bite-Size Taiwanese team yourself, if possible. Thanks!
